Evolution

Modern technology and gradual evolution, substantially changing the world and the world of medicine, have gone on to impact one of the most adamant medical fields; the herbal field. The gradual change in time and technological advancements have greatly impacted the pursuit of traditional medicine as new therapeutic measures and concoctions are being formed.

In the past, though herbal remedies were made to help everyone in any way it could, restrictions were put on the spread of its sacred contents. Herbal medicine in Africa was considered spiritually sacred. It was therefore not considered rightful or obligatory by African families to deliberately disclose its venerated contents. However, in recent years, the enormity of deadly diseases and increased demand for new curing methods have promoted more flexible customs. African families are gradually adjusting unyielding taboos with the view to substantially changing the medical industry.

Recently, the disease malaria was cured using the combination of over 1200 family remedies and herbs from 160 African Families. The alleviation of these rigid rules has given rise to the transformation of the health industry as currently, some prescription drugs have a basis as African herbal remedies, including artemisinin, digitalis, quinine, and taxanes.

In the past, the method of preparation of African Herbal Remedies was limited due to the lack of machines and proper infrastructure; currently, however, the preparation of these herbal concoctions is made more efficient due to elevated advances in technology. The fact that herbal medicine production varies from plant to plant and comprises extracting chemicals from plant materials; involves a more complex process in contrast to conventional pharmaceutical products. Little technological advancements, as most people thought, could efficiently produce these herbs. Modern companies however such as Ayurvedic Manufacturing have invalidated such claims as syrup, powder, and tablet manufacturing machines are being made.

These machines have extensively transformed the world of African herbal medicine as they are bought and used by African Herbalists. Diseases like typhoid which would typically be cured in Africa by manually crushing coconut roots and bamboo leaves can be made using food processors or blenders.

The development of syrup manufacturing and extraction machines has given rise to better, bulk packaging of herbal remedies.Companies like COVID-19 Organics successfully produced in bulk COVID-19 herbal remedies for the public both locally and internationally. Packaging in bottles and cans became very popular as well due to its convenience.

Companies such as Greenlife Organic Foods and Herbal Centre in Ghana produce packaged, user-friendly, herbal remedies in bottles and cans. This would be considered unacceptable and incongruous in the past but however technological and psychological amelioration has made this change much less of a fright.
